Dr. Liu is an immunologist and entrepreneur.  Over 30 years, he was on faculty in major research universities in US while leading biotechnology startups in US and China. Dr. Liu’s laboratory have established Sialoside-based pattern recognition as a mechanism of self-nonself discrimination in innate immunity and pioneered a concept of preserving immune checkpoint for safer and more effective immunotherapy. He has translated these fundamental discoveries to save lives of patients with cancer and other fatal inflammatory diseases. Dr. Liu, received his bachelor of science from Wuhan University, Master of Science from Peking Union Medical College, PhD in immunology from Australian National University.  Following a postdoctoral training at Yale University, Dr. Liu served sequentially as tenured and/or endowed faculty at New York University, Ohio State University, University of Michigan, Children’s National University and University of Maryland. He was recipients of Searle Scholar Award and Markey Scholar Award and was elected to American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2004.
